Kudu Ridge Farm is home to five honeybee hives, each playing an important role in our growing apiary. Three of our colonies are Italian bees, known for their gentle nature, strong brood production, and steady honey gathering. The other two colonies are Buckfast bees, valued for their hardiness, productivity, and ability to adapt well to changing conditions.

Together, these five hives give us the chance to learn from different bee genetics while producing local honey here on the farm. We manage each colony with a focus on healthy bees, strong hives, and sustainable growth from season to season.

From spring buildup through the summer nectar flow and into winter preparation, our bees are at the heart of Kudu Ridge Farm.

What Our Bees Forage

Throughout the season, our bees forage across Kudu Ridge Farm and the surrounding Northern Kentucky countryside. Their available nectar sources change with the seasons, including clover, wildflowers, trees, and other blooming plants. That changing forage helps give each honey harvest its own natural color and flavor.
